Influenza Cases Surge, UGM Expert Asks Government to Increase Surveillance and Vaccination

Cases of Influenza, particularly subtype A, experienced a significant surge in Indonesia at the end of October 2025, triggering warnings from health experts at UGM and members of parliament.

This surge is considered a wake-up call that the national health system must be more responsive to seasonal diseases that can have serious implications, especially for high-risk groups.

A Professor of Clinical Microbiology at UGM urged the government to immediately strengthen the surveillance system (disease monitoring and reporting) in all health facilities, from community health centers to hospitals.

This strengthening aims to ensure early detection and rapid response, so that cases can be handled effectively before spreading widely and causing complications.

In preventive efforts in line with SDGs 3, the importance of expanding flu vaccination programs targeting vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with congenital diseases is emphasized.

This preparedness and active prevention measures are considered crucial to maintaining public endurance and preventing increased burden on the healthcare system.
