Microplastics in Rainwater, UGM Expert Calls it a Silent Threat to Human Health.

In late October 2025, the discovery of microplastics in Jakarta's rainwater raised new concerns about environmental risks to human health.
An environmental health expert from UGM warned that these microplastic particles are a "silent threat" because they can enter the body through breathing or consumption, potentially triggering various hidden health problems.
This finding strongly confirms the link between SDGs 3 (Health) and SDGs 13 (Climate Change), as well as the issue of plastic pollution. Environmental pollution is now not only damaging ecosystems (sea and land) but also directly contaminating basic natural resources, creating new and more complex health risks.
The warning from UGM academics urges the government and society to no longer view the plastic issue as a secondary problem. Efforts to control waste and air pollution must be fundamentally tightened.
Failure to manage the environment will erode achievements in the health sector, because investments in medical facilities will be less effective if basic sources of life continue to be contaminated.
